Losing a pet can be an extremely scary and frustrating event.
It is important to act
quickly to increase the likelihood of finding your pet safe and sound.
The first few days after your pet is lost are critical, but many pets turn
up after months of searching.

Create
a Lost Pet Flyer.
Make it simple with large clear fonts that can be seen from a distance.
Make at least 300 copies, preferably in color. Include the following
information:
Immediately
Report Your Pet. Quickly
contact the following five organizations which are licensed to take in stray
animals in Chicago. You will be required to submit paperwork and visit
these organizations during the search process. Be prepared to visit
each organization multiple times.
Recruit friends and neighbors to canvas the neighborhood and post flyers. Walk and drive through the area constantly.
Approach other pet
owners, postal workers, and delivery people who are familiar with the area.
Contact your local police station, especially if you suspect that your pet was stolen. Bring flyers to the station for posting.
The
police will not actively look for your pet but will likely contact you if
your pet was sighted. -Beware of scam artists claiming to have your
lost pet. Make strangers describe your pet thoroughly before offering
any information on the reward. Be suspicious of people insisting that money
be wired or sent prior to reclaiming your pet. Never go to a stranger's
house alone. Report suspected scam artists to the police.
